What is CBD?

A GIFT FROM NATURE

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a naturally occurring compound found in hemp. Hailed as the super-nutrient of the 21st century, CBD boasts a host of health- boosting benefits thanks to its uniquely complex structure.

CBD is predominantly found in the buds and flowers of the hemp plant, and is free from any intoxicating effects. Increasingly taken as a power-packed nutritional supplement, CBD is thought to improve focus, calm frazzled nerves, promote better quality sleep, ease inflammation, and improve overall vitality.

CBD is also a powerful antioxidant on a par with vitamins C and E, protecting us from the damage caused by free radicals and environmental pollutants and is considered safe, non-toxic, and free from harmful side effects.

Endocannabinoid System

CREATING BALANCE

Creating balance in our body is one of the main reasons people include CBD in their wellness routine. But did you know CBD helps support our endocannabinoid system – the body’s master regulator responsible for bringing homeostasis to all our key biological functions?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) comprises a vast network of special receptors (CB1 and CB2) in our brains, central nervous system, digestive tract, organs, and immune system which are activated by cannabis-like chemicals made by the body called endocannabinoids. The ECS acts like a dimmer switch, increasing or decreasing cell activity as necessary and is involved in everything from sleep, appetite, mood, the immune system, reproduction, and memory.

Fast paced city living can deplete ECS function, leading to endocannabinoid deficiency and has been linked to health conditions such as IBS, migraines, fibromyalgia, and MS. Cannabinoids like CBD are thought to support endocannabinoid health, helping us regain our centre again.

CBD benefits and uses

CBD is an incredibly versatile bioceutical compound found in hemp. Many people are surprised that a single nutritional supplement can have such a wide variety of wellness-boosting benefits to our bodies and minds. That’s because CBD is a multi-tasking molecule, targeting a wide range of physiological functions at the same time.

CBD activates receptors that regulate mood and anxiety, pain perception, inflammation, body temperature, and feelings of nausea. However, due to a lack of clinical studies, we still don’t know for sure how CBD affects the body. In the meantime, we know CBD positively impacts overall wellbeing helping to bring balance to our bodies and minds.

Promote better sleep

Not sleeping enough can contribute to health conditions like depression and anxiety, obesity, and heart disease. Many people report improvements in the quality of their sleep after taking CBD.

Support the immune system

A healthy immune system is key to maintaining optimum health. Weakened immunity leaves us open to infections, whereas too much immune activity results in autoimmune diseases. CBD is a known immune modulator, helping to keep our immune system in balance.

Induce feelings of calm

Stress is an inevitable part of life, but when it takes over, our health suffers. CBD helps bring calm to our sometimes choppy waters, so we can get on with our day.

Protect against free radicals

Us city dwellers are constantly bombarded by environmental stressors and pollutants which can lead to oxidative stress and cell damage. Consuming foods rich in antioxidants helps protect us, and thankfully, CBD, is on a par with vitamin C and E when it comes to protecting us from free radicals.

Improve focus

Staying focused throughout the day is key to achieving our professional goals. But if we’re honest, how many of us struggle with workplace concentration? A common feedback from CBD users describes improved focus and sharper thinking.

Not all CBD is created equal

CBD is CBD, right? Not exactly. CBD might be the next best thing since sliced bread, but if our body only absorbs a small proportion of the molecule, we only get a fraction of the benefit. Because CBD is a lipid and we are 60% water, cellular absorption is incredibly low. While most CBD oil on the market is simply mixed with a carrier oil, MEDAHUMAN has turned to the world of science to ensure you enjoy maximum CBD benefits.

Basic CBD

Micro Encapsulated CBD

MICRO ENCAPSULATED CBD

At MEDAHUMAN we use micro encapsulated CBD — minute, stable particles, encased in liposomes — allowing the CBD to pass straight into cells, crossing the blood-brain barrier and nourishing cell membranes. Encapsulated CBD is also fast acting, taking on average five minutes to take effect.

SUPERIOR BIOAVAILABILITY

When CBD is swallowed, it must first pass through the digestive process after which it is broken down by liver enzymes. Thus only a small amount of CBD is actually available to be used by the body. This is known as bioavailability. Thanks to the nanoemulsified delivery system, our bodies can absorb five times more CBD compared to other oral CBD preparations.

ZERO THC

We haven’t got anything against THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, we just know being Medahuman means we have to be sharp, on the ball, and with our feet on the ground. That’s why we’ve opted for broad spectrum CBD oil, containing not only cannabidiol, but other minor cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and no hidden extras to alter your senses.

ORGANIC HEMP

Most CBD available in the UK is extracted from hemp. As well as being a source of CBD, hemp can be used to clean up contaminated soil in a process called bioremediation. However, if you are consuming CBD extracted from hemp grown on polluted ground, you’re also ingesting the soil’s chemical nasties. That’s why we only use CBD extracted from organic hemp.

FAQs

We work closely with a premium UK CBD supplier who leads the way in helping farmers grow a reliable and sustainable supply of organic industrial hemp. In addition to producing best-in-class CBD, our supplier adheres to legal, quality and safety requirements as well as reducing energy wastage.

CBD is legal in the UK and EU. However in the UK THC is a banned substance and most products contain THC — which is why we have ensured MEDA contains zero.

Although CBD is legal in the EU we advise that you check with your airline as well as the legislation in the country you are flying to.
